On the 9th to 11th of October 2014, a translation workshop was conducted at Dewan Perdana UniSZA, Gong Badak Campus. The workshop was jointly organised by the Faculty of Languages and Communication, UniSZA and the Malaysian Institute of Translation & Books (ITBM), under the Graduate Employability fund. A total of 55 semester 7 students from the Bachelor of English with Communication were involved in the 3-day programme which was held to expose students to the realities of the translation world; one of their many career prospects after graduation. The workshop began by looking into the career prospects of translators then they were exposed to topics that included the Theory and Techniques of Translation, Syntax, Semantics, and Terminology, Text Editing and Mass Communication.
Based on the feedback by the facilitators, the participants are now ready to enter the employment field as demonstrated by their active and enthusiastic response to the activities. Though the 3 days given were not enough for the students, it is hoped that they are able to implement the knowledge given.
